The Armory Life™ has some exciting news! Capt. Dale Dye, a respected military consultant, actor, director, and writer who served in the United States Marine Corps, has just authored an article on the Battle of Peleliu. This battle, which took place during World War II, was one of the most brutal encounters in the Pacific Theater. The First Marine Division embarked on an amphibious assault 79 years ago, with the mission to defeat the Japanese defenders and secure airfields for the liberation of the Philippines. However, what was supposed to be a four-day operation turned into a grueling three-month-long battle that pushed these heroes to their limits. Capt. Dye, known for his expertise and experience in military matters, provides a vivid account of the combat and takes us on a journey to the present-day Peleliu. As the Senior Military Advisor for the acclaimed HBO series “The Pacific,” Capt. Dye personally visited the island to witness its terrain. He discovered incredible remnants, from live Japanese mortar rounds hidden in reinforced caves to abandoned U.S. armored vehicles that bear witness to the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought there. Capt. Dye's connection to Peleliu runs deep. He shares, "While serving with the 1st Marine Division, I met some aging veterans who told me that to truly understand the horrors of the Pacific, I needed to study Peleliu. Visiting that remote island brought it all to life for me. My hope is that readers will feel the same sense of respect and awe I experienced while standing on its beaches and climbing its coral mountains, where countless Marines and soldiers paid the ultimate price." This isn't Capt. Dye's first contribution to The Armory Life. He has written numerous articles for the platform, both in its digital and print formats. You can explore his collection of work on their website, and make sure to check out his piece on American armor in the Vietnam War, which is featured in the current Fall 2023 print magazine. The editor of The Armory Life, Mike Humphries, expressed the team's deep honor to have Capt. Dye as a contributor. He shared their excitement for future collaborations, saying, "Everyone on our team is a huge fan of his work, so we obviously jumped at the opportunity to have him create content for The Armory Life. We look forward to running many more of his pieces in the future."
